We ordered the two meat combo platters and at least three of the meat dishes were tasty. The rest were okay, but in no case was it anything special. Eating with the spongy bread is certainly novel from a US/NW Euro perspective. On the whole, it was good, but not something about which I'll become habituated.
We found the food acceptable. I would have given them 5 stars every time. I went there tonight and was very disappointed. Their menu has changed. Their prices have gone up. On the menu it says to request gluten free injera. I'll know in a few hours whether all of their injera is gluten free like it used to be and/or if the server spoke enough English to understand what I asked for. They also charged us extra for the injera without mentioning the charge on the menu, and charged for 4 pieces when we only got 3. There are other amazing restaurants nearby. We won't be going back.
This used to be my favorite Ethiopian restaurant. I would have given them 5 stars every time. I went there tonight and was very disappointed. Their menu has changed. Been here 3 times, twice eat in and 1 to go with all ordering the combo chicken or beef platter. Every time has been consistent on flavor as well as service. Bring your appetite as you do get a lot of food for the money but the combo platter is a great way to taste new dishes.
I am no expertise on Ethiopian food but this place sure is good. Overall really good food. Platters are enough to share. We order 2 different one for 2 people and ended up taking home a lot! I enjoyed it gave a lot of the bread! Only thing I would change is the lighting. It was really dark but very intimate
First time trying Ethiopian food. Overall really good food. Platters are enough to share. 30053 review-like-place-lot-work-east like-place-lot-work-east http://www.cafeibex.feedback/review-like-place-lot-work-east 8 8 8 0 0 0 I like this place a lot. I work for an East African-serving non profit and this is the place my co-workers recommend. Service is not bad and the food is great. Definitely some of the best Ethiopoian I've had. They always have gluten free injera on hand, which is important for me. They also have a full bar! One combo dish is plenty for two people. I've been here with small groups, a big group, and my family - it was always nice.
I like this place a lot. 30052 review-came-plate-nations-service-fine came-plate-nations-service-fine http://www.cafeibex.feedback/review-came-plate-nations-service-fine 8 8 8 0 0 0 Came here for Plate of Nations. I found the service to be fine. We didn't wait for long, but we didn't see much of the server once our food was served. The food was good and there was plenty of it. There was a meat & vegetable platter, followed by a dessert. It fed two of us to bursting and plenty of leftovers. The flavors were good and it wasn't too spicy for my dining companion. It was missing the boiled egg though, is that not really a thing? The price was ridiculously low for the amount and variety of food, but again we came with Plate of Nations, and I didn't see what normal prices were. There is a free parking lot. They have a separate bar area and private rooms and televisions for sports watching.
Came here for Plate of Nations. I found the service to be fine. We didn’t wait for long, but we didn’t see much of the server once our food was served. The food was good and there was plenty of it. There was a meat & vegetable platter, followed by a dessert. It fed two of us to bursting and plenty of leftovers. The flavors were good and it wasn’t too spicy for my dining companion. I ordered the vegetable combo and each item was flavorful and visually appealing. Very friendly staff. The owner came out more than once to chat with us. My carnivore friends equally sang the praises of the poor animals they ate. They had a soccer game on the television that I asked them to turn down. They obliged, turned off the volume, and turned on some music. One thing - the restroom decorations are bizarre.
Excellent meal. The food came really quickly, and in general the service was great. The atmosphere feels authentic- tons of Ethiopians gathered there on the Friday we ate there. Check this place out if you're a fan of Ethipian cuisine, or if you're in the mood for some delish and unique spices and dishes. Also, be prepared to eat the traditional way- no silver wear, you grab your food with this thin sour-dough-ish crepe-like bread called injara. It's made with a healthy grain that's from Africa and it's gluten free! Added bonus- it's SO reasonably priced! My bf loved how cheap the beers were on top of everything. Moral of the story... 30037 review-tried-ethiopian-places-seattle-area tried-ethiopian-places-seattle-area http://www.cafeibex.feedback/review-tried-ethiopian-places-seattle-area 10 10 10 0 0 0 I have tried many many Ethiopian places in the Seattle area. While none of them have been bad, they generally have the same menu options, with very little variation. While Cafe Ibex does not have a huge menu, their dishes are amazing. I tried the spicy lamb cooked with Injera, as well as a crispier lamb dish. Before ordering the former, the waitress asked if I had had it before. She warned me that it was pretty spicy, and told me what it was --and she was correct, it was very spicy, but I loved it. We got cottage cheese to compliment the dish, which made the spicier one bearable to my husband. He could take about three bites before he stopped eating it, but wanted to keep trying because the flavor was so good. Out of all the places I've been, I've never had anything like it, and will be returning for the sole purpose of being able to eat this dish again. The crispy lamb dish was something I had never seen at an Ethiopian place before. Usually the meat is soaked in stew and served over injera. This dish was like that, but without the stew. It was nice to have the contrast between those two textures. This dish, like the other, was also flavored excellently. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves Ethiopian food. This place just outshines the others.
I have tried many many Ethiopian places in the Seattle area. 30036 review-getting-good-ethiopian-places-town getting-good-ethiopian-places-town http://www.cafeibex.feedback/review-getting-good-ethiopian-places-town 4871 10 10 10 0 0 0 It's getting to where there are as many good Ethiopian places in this town as there are any other kind of place. Ibex is pretty close to the top of the heap, maybe right at the top. They have a nice dining room and the food is spectacular. You're over in the valley, on MLK, just starting to head back up the hill to get here. It's off to the side of the light rail line, though we never heard a train once over the course of a leisurely lunch here. There are no opulent Ethiopian places in this town as far as I know, but these guys do a credible job turning out a clean and nice dining room. There are maybe a dozen and a half tables with glass tops, a couple of flat screens, a separate bar with a big barback full of stock, and they have the whole thing wired for sound--maybe music, maybe a sporting event that's on the TVs. The staff are very quiet and unassuming, but they move quickly with waters and drinks and menus and the like. The menu here is pretty long, compared to what I can remember from previous Ethiopian encounters. There's the full-on sampler platter with tons of meats and veg on a huge round of injera, if you want to go whole hog. We did. The injera here is springy and soft and perfect, though maybe a bit less sourdough-y than some places offer it. The meats are tender and deeply flavorful, with great balance from different vegetables that range from earthy to bright. All the dishes here are incredibly appealing, and the lunch platter comes with dessert for two. We got slices of a baklava-like pastry that was very good, vaguely reminiscent of quince in the flavor of the filling. All told, an immensely filling meal for two ran a bit over $30, and I will most definitely be back repeatedly.
It’s getting to where there are as many good Ethiopian places in this town as there are any other kind of place. We just moved to Seattle and Cafe Ibex is already at the top of our favorite restaurant list.
My wife and I have been to close to a dozen different Ethiopian restaurants, in DC, Ann Arbor, and Chicago, and this is probably our favorite one. The food is as good as any we’ve had, the service is extremely friendly, and the value is unbeatable. We got way more food than we should ever try to finish (though we just about did), with a beer, and after tax the total was less than $20! I have tried Ethiopian food in NY, RI, CA - other than WA. I must say that the best Ethiopian food I had was at this place. I am an Indian and I have always had a problem when the Injeera was sour (it reminds me of sour dosas). The Injeera at this place was excellent. The vegetables were extremely well made. The spiced Injeera was absolutely delicious. The prices are perfect too. I recommend this place with absolutely no reservations, unless you are a tight-assed **** who needs to spend money to believe he is having a good time.
We had the vegetable combo platter and the spiced Injeera. 30040 review-tasty-hidden-restaurant-block-new tasty-hidden-restaurant-block-new http://www.cafeibex.feedback/review-tasty-hidden-restaurant-block-new 10 10 10 0 0 0 A tasty and hidden restaurant and a block from the new light rail station. The QuickBooks users group I was with ordered the vegetarian combo. It wasn't too spicy and perfect for others with me who were trying it out for the first time. The combo easily feeds two people. The organizer ended up taking some home. They also have a back room so if you are looking for a QUIET meeting space for 20-40 people, you should consider them. Plenty of parking on nearby side streets. Just make sure you park by one of the city's signs. I would say the food matches quality of the Zuma, Enat, and GoJo restaurants.
A tasty and hidden restaurant and a block from the new light rail station. I have been there several times now and every time I go there it gets better it seems. The wait staff are very very friendly and seem to really appreciate your business. The food is inspirational. I've never quite had anything like it. It just keeps bringing me back for more. It's always been kind of a pain to get there but now the link light rail is open and there is a convenient stop a block away from this place, I am going to start going there a lot. and I can't wait. If you've never had Ethiopian food and want to try something new, I highly recommend this place. I went on a whim with my friends and have not regretted it since.
Cafe Ibex is a delicious little restaurant. I have been there several times now and every time I go there it gets better it seems. This is a great bar to hang out in, and a good restaurant to have a meal with your family too. An intercontinental interlude: the last time I ordered a whiskey coke, I got my whiskey in a snifter, with a small cup of coke with two ice cubes. Love it.
This restaurant has fantastic atmosphere, servers/owners who remember you when you return, tasty Ethiopian food, and super jam-tastic dancing night on Friday and Saturday - AND they serve food till the early morning in their generous dancehall space in the back.
